An Ottawa native, Ann Mitchell is a naive Canadian painter who has lived in North-Hatley - Quebec, Eastern Townships - for over 30 years. Inspired by the famous American artist Grandma Moses, Ann Mitchell paints country scenes often seen from the air. We see family homes and around them the many characters who frequent these houses and give them life. With this in mind, many of the artist's paintings relate to the places where she herself lived and abound in family anecdotes, featuring loved ones, neighbors or friends. They are found, in small groups, engaged in various activities adapted to the seasons depicted.
In addition, given her penchant for homes and the interest aroused by her paintings, Ann Mitchell has also filled many orders since the beginning of her career. Many people wish to see their own home and the joys of their family life highlighted on canvas. On each occasion, the artist takes care to photograph the targeted sites, to get to know her clients and their families to create environments that are not only filled with joie de vivre, but also rich in meaning.
Over the years, Ann Mitchell has produced more than a hundred canvases that have won her several awards and are now found in Canadian and American collections. She is also the author of two books in which many of the little secrets of her paintings are revealed. Open-hearted books that reveal to us an artist with a playful gaze, full of anecdotes, endowed with a meticulous observation capacity and a gift for transcribing daily life activities into visual poems.
NOTE: Miss Mitchell was the solo artist of the Exhibition À vol d'artiste (July 15 to October 18, 2020)
